Come join us at your local parks and green spaces for our 10th annual Geoheritage Day! You will have the chance to learn how geological processes have shaped the regional landscape, given us a glimpse into past environments and life forms and provided resources for our use. Volunteers from Carleton University’s Department of Earth Sciences and the Ottawa-Gatineau Geoheritage Project will be on hand to explain what there is to see and how each site fits into the local geological history.
Come out and spend the day with some remarkable rocks, minerals and fossils!

Mer Bleue Bog, Orleans
Hog’s Back Park, Ottawa
Pinhey Sand Dunes, Nepean
Carleton University Earth Sciences Sample Preparation Laboratory, Carleton University
Campus (where you can bring a rock to be cut and find help to identify it)
Geoheritage Day is a joint effort of Carleton University’s Department of Earth Sciences and the Ottawa-Gatineau Geoheritage Project, along with our partners at Cardinal Creek Community Association and the Biodiversity Conservancy. This annual event is designed to introduce the public to some of our local geowonders. The day is powered entirely by enthusiastic volunteers including geoscientists, university students and geoscience retirees stationed at various sites across the National Capital Region between 10am and 3pm.

Science Funfest is an open house event that takes place at Natural Resources Canada's Booth Street Complex, at the corner of Carling Avenue and Booth Street in Ottawa. It's a wonderful opportunity for children and anyone interested in science to engage in presentations and gain hands on science experience by participating in activities that will showcase the importance of science in a fun and interactive way. We invite you to bring your rocks and fossil samples to the Geological Survey of Canada for identification.
Explore Geoheritage Day
Explore Geoheritage Day takes place each October during National Science and Technology Week, and seeks to provide the general public with an opportunity to become more familiar with the Geoheritage of the National Capital Region. We invite you to join volunteers from Carleton University's Department of Earth Sciences and the Ottawa Gatineau Geoheritage Project at area parks, heritage sites and green spaces and learn how geological processes have shaped the local landscape and provided resources for our use.
